FAQ
Are there different types of 'Shrink Wrap'?
Yes. Shrink Wrap is a generic term used for a polyethylene plastic that shrinks when heat is applied. There are many grades, thicknesses and types of 'Shrink Wrap' on the market, with many different uses such as covering food, and consumable items or covering pallets. Shrinkforce uses a specific Industrial Grade product which is intended for Outdoor usage, on Construction Sites and Superyachts. It has a specific UVI additive, which ensures it lasts 2 years outdoors without deteriorating. Call us for a sample to compare our product with others on the market.
If you have chosen to use a contractor who uses a lower grade 'Shrink Wrap', you have a chance to negotiate on price. However, your expectations should be lower in terms of watertightness, durability and the overall appearance of the wrap.
How quickly can you install your Shrink Wrap?
Shrinkforce are the fastest guns in NZ!! You should allow for between 100-150sqm per hour of Shrinkforce Wrap Installation.
Can 'Shrink Wrap' fail, and if so, why will it fail?
Yes, we have seen many failures in Auckland, and are often called on to repair or reinstate failed Shrink Wrap projects. There are two main reasons why a 'Shrink Wrapped' tent will fail. The first is the type of product. Ask your installer for specifications on their product. Ask them for a 100% watertight guarantee. Be sure to ask for their terms of trade, and their insurance details. The second reason for failures is due to lack of experience. Be sure to investigate your contractors experience. Search on the companies register, and ask how long they have been in business. Ask for testimonials from their customers, where a similar type and size of project has been undertaken.
How Do I Protect My company and my client against a Subcontractors Shrink Wrap failure?
Unfortunately, choosing an inexperienced contractor can mean lengthy and difficult insurance claims that run in to the tens of thousands. Water damage and fire damage are the two most common issues relating to claims relating to Shrink Wrap in New Zealand. Choose your contractor and the product they are using well. You should expect that your structure is completely watertight. Repairs, unless there is major storm damage should be free of charge.

Can I do ‘Shrink Wrapping’ myself?
Yes and No!
YES: If you are looking at shrink wrapping equipment such as a small boat, tractor, trailer, digger or car, we can supply you with a DIY kit. The kit includes a one hour training session, equipment rental, and materials. Our DIY kit includes a one hour training session on how to wrap small items such as these. However, we would not recommend storing items for long periods of time, as your machinery will sweat, potentially causing mechanical and electrical failure.
NO: If a project is on a Construction site, or over 100 sqm, it is advised not to try and Shrink Wrap yourself. The Shrink Wrap itself is heavy and can fly off in to the wind, causing damage to nearby buildings. Further, a Hot works permit should be issued on site, as there is an open flame, and a gas bottle required for application. All contractors using the heat tools should have fire extinguishers on hand, and be trained in First Aid. The installation of Shrink Wrap on scaffolding is dangerous and our industry is yet to be regulated. Until our industry is regulated, and higher standards are expected of every Shrink Wrapping contractor, it will be up to the main contractor to ensure the Shrink Wrap company being engaged is legitimate, and has their own Health and Safety practices in place.
